Of note: On an EVO (unlike a twinkie) there is no need to pre-fill the new filter (but you should still lube the new gasket), as that is the last place the oil reaches in it's journey through the engine.
The first time I changed the oil on my son's Honda it had one of those K&N filters on and I twisted that nut right off the filter.
Not saying they're not a good idea but you still have to pay attention to how you put the filter on.

Yup, I can see (and imagined) that happening. Although, over the last several years, I've never had an issue with twisting the nut off. But it's always a possibility... That's why the 'ol Channel Loc's are my Plan B...

That's because you aren't an idiot and don't way over torque the filter putting it on.

Personally I like using the cup socket that fits over the end of the filter.
Not sure this is true but in my head you get more surface area to turn against and thus more torque can be applied if needed to remove the filter.

It`s probably not that you put it on too tight, you probably forgot to lube the gasket, that is what makes oil filters stick.

The Toyota filters I use on my bikes come with a real O ring that is pre-greased.
