Looks awful! It may be the PO used an unsuitable oil, some of which can turn funny like that due to the umpteen additives modern oils use. Hard to think it is caused by water getting into the chain-case, as oil could also get out and make a real mess! I suggest removing the outer cover and cleaning thoroughly inside, to minimise contaminating your new oil.

Like Grbrown said...pull the outer primary and get all that crap outta there that you can before adding anything new. Wipe it down inside, spray everything in there with something like CRC 6-56 and wipe some more. B&M "Trick Shift" is a good choice once you get it really clean and free of whatever that mess is, but you might want to just throw a quart of any cheap 30-wt motor oil in the primary first, run it a little while, then drain and see what comes out. When all that nasty stuff is gone, then put in whatever you choose to run.

I'd be inclined to flush the clutch through with a suitable cleanser, operating the clutch to get some between the plates, reassemble the cover then follow guido's advice and run some oil through the chain-case for a short while to pick up the residue. Might even do that a couple of times before using the real McCoy.

After repairs , I half filled the transmission case with a 50 / 50 brew of kerosene and Automatic transmission fluid for the first 5 kilometer flush, Then Straight ATO for the second 10 kilometers.
Dumped that then ran the bike on my normal brew of 20/50 for the next 500 kilometers then back to my normal oil change routine.
But Id be more concerned about just how that got in there and for how long.

I took the primary off and sprayed it down with some CRC. Got everything I could see, Had some B&M left over, so, I'll run it for a day or 2 and clean it again. Yeah , I'll do some short rides and get her good and warmed up, and flush it a couple times. Went to HD and bought a couple new gaskets.
