Going by the date stamp the tyre is 18 years old! Perfect tread and looks like new. Two new tyres ordered.
It's obvious now that this bike put up the majority of its mileage early in it's life. It has not done a lot of mileage recently. For that reason this almost a recommissioning exercise. I will be changing all fluids and changing hoses where necessary. Once I am satisfied that it is fully roadworthy and reliable I will then look at modifying it.

How's the bike?
As its Summer now, the rain is a bit warmer.

I took the front wheel off to get a new tyre fitted which a buddy sourced for me. Only when the wheel was off did I see its a rear fitment only. Hes on the case to get a front so no problem. Pads look good and I can also take the horrible eagle fender mascot off. Hope the paint is not too bad under it. I'll get an adhesive spear trim to cover the screw holes.
The primary oil looks a bit grey so I''l grab some Formula+ at the weekend and change that out.
Itching to get out and about for some miles. Once I have the essentials covered I want to start increasing its touring comfort factor. I'll be looking at things like soft lowers, chrome fork wind deflectors, some kind of seat cushion or pad (airhawk, sheepskin etc.). Might look at a Chinese batwing. Just a shell, no inners that will mount to my screen bobbins to allow either to be used. Any suggestions or experience of any of these?

Have no experience with the Chinese ones, I did have a Dead Center fairing on my 05 though...great fit and finish and it went right on just like the windscreen.

Quick update: New front tyre fitted, eagle emblem removed from the front fender, fender rails removed front and rear.
I'm looking at options to hide or downplay the holes left in the front fender. Thinking of some kind of spear trim like in the photo.
Anyway, I need to get some miles on it. Ive got a 40 mile commute so Im going to start using it for that when the weather is not completely ****.

Rode it about 50 miles today between showers. It's going really well but the factory air cleaner and pipes are really strangling it. I think the pipes are from a later model that were fitted by the previous owner. So before I go looking at a cam I'll be getting a free flowing backplate and air filter. I'll get some free flowing slip ons but nothing crazy loud. More of a deep rumble if possible. Any suggestions?
Still getting used to the screen too. Some weaving in crosswinds.
Other than that I'm liking the bike a lot. Really comfortable on the open road and lots of room to move around. Think I'll take a week off work soon and tour around for a few days!
