Mufflers with more "bass" in the sound

What's been your experience over the years? I put true duals and Jones Full Boars on my 96 Road King, it sounds nice but doesn't have the bass you feel in the ground, it's almost all snap. Not harsh or excessively loud. Is it because it's a carbed Evo and not a fuel injected Twin Cam? I experimented and removed the baffles, which sounded dangerous lol, so I put em right back in. I can get 1/2 inch larger baffles for these, but I dunno if it'd make any difference.

Here's what they sound like. Outside the garage the sound thins right out.

I don't know. That sounds great to me, but you are right about the snappy sound vs. less bass.

It's the nature of the EVO.

My old side kicks have some pretty good bass...I have no idea who makes them though.

Think firearms.
there is the narrow barrel.
And then there is the blunderbuss!!!

If you can wrap the baffles with header exhaust heat wrapping (looks like fire hose), you can deepen the sound. Most likely they had a fiberglass packing in them and burnt out, my Dragos Dragulas eats packing, Frank Drago's showed the header wrap trick and will be installing it shortly, use hose clamps at each end to secure it.

Agreed. Glass pack is mostly gone after 7-10k mi
exhaust wrap should last way longer. Use safety wire. I would space each ring every two inches. And tuck the twisted ends flat before reinstalling the baffle
Have to ask, are you using the stock headers?

RhynoRocK 06-15-2019 03:13 PM

They're V&H headers.

When I first installed the mufflers, I tried 3 things. First with the fiberglass wrap intact, which sounded nearly like a stock muffler, then without the baffles at all which was horrid, then with the baffles and no fiberglass, which is what you hear in the video.

It's honestly just a worthless whine from me lol, jealousy at my buddy's Twin cam because his sounds just plain awesome and it's bone stock, aside from his exhaust which is a screamin eagle. I think it's just what Tomfiii said, just the nature of this engine.
