Default '95 Road King Electronic Speedo

The speedo works when it wants. I've unplugged the harness, cleaned all of the connections and it still works when it wants. I actually found a NOS OEM speedo and harness. From what I read in the shop manual, the speedo reads the computer for the actual miles (68, 200) Do I need someone to program the speedo and computer to make it come alive or is it supposed to be plug and play? The shop manual is sketchy about this. Thanks.

Have you checked the voltage regulator? The speedo have a overvoltage protection

Not in 95...the mileage was stored in the speedo till sometime in the early 2000's when it was stored in the ECM...if you plug in an NOS speedo..it will "come alive" with 0 miles...
