Seriously though, there would be TONS of room for lithium cells. I'd recommend at least 100 VDC so you can get up to highway speeds, and at least 10kWh worth of energy storage to make it worth while. Even then you'd only get about 100 miles city, maybe 50 highway due to the size and weight of the bike. Oh, and convert to chain drive for easy ratio changes to an electric motor.

My first design obstacle would be how to get the dag blasted swingarm mounted to the frame without a transmission???

Still up there Dan.

Not that I will or would own an ELC, but to answer the weight issue, would be to use composites. Such as carbon fiber instead of alloys.
And like mentioned earlier. There has to be a potato potato emanating from it

I'm not seeing the first post anymore, either.

My view on this is I don't see much intersection between "Things an electric motorcycle would be good at" and "Touring motorcycle". I see zero intersection between "Things an electric motorcycle would be good at" and "Heavy, steel Harley-Davidson touring motorcycle frame".

In that sense, I'm with splatttttttttttttttttttt. If there is any rationale behind trying to make a large, long-range touring style electric motorcycle, such a project would include a sophisticated, lightweight, high-tech frame.

The real engineering challenges will be associated with getting the power and drive systems sorted, and those challenges will be extreme. Taking a short-cut by retrofitting an existing frame (that is profoundly unsuited to the task) not only doesn't do you any good, it sets you back from the goal.

The idea that someone would spend the enormous amount of money needed to sort this all out, based on the idea that there is money to be made selling electric drive conversion kits for Harley touring bikes, seems nuts.

Yeah Omahe
Stick with what we have for now
Fact is a little birdie told me five years ago that batteries that are powerful and last enough to navigate semies and buses already exist

I think they deleted the Dick's posts. He got into it with an Admin, and created a half dozen accounts.

No it isn't. It was a trolling post by the Dick, and some of you fell for it.
