Default Year of my evo

I just bought an evo engine from a guy. I have a rigid frame I’m putting it on. I was told it was an 84. Which is the first year they were produced. How can I find this out. Didn’t come with a title, had it ran by sheriff office. The vin starts with GELS

If it is indeed an 84...it will have 4 stars on the right case where the vin number used to be on shovels...it will also have shovel type head bolts

Never heard of no EVO with Shovel head bolts!!!!!
All Evo's areSandwiched [thru bolts] and No Shovel Ever was....

And... BTW some Later Shovels had the abbreviated vin on the left side, and not on the Right..

Well it can't possibly exist if you haven't heard of it...84 evos had a male female stud and shovel type head bolts..

You can't use 84 heads with the later stud set-up without drilling the head stud holes out

ALL 84 Harley motors... shovels and evos... had 4 stars on the right and abbreviated vin on the left...because that was the year they moved the VIN

FWIW E85's had the same stud and head bolt design.
L 85 is when HD went to the current design.
