Default 98 evo, carb needle question

Can you raise the needle in the stock carb?

Thanks,
Richard

I do believe you can add washers to raise it up if necessary. If I remember right they are #4 copper washers available at any hardware store. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

I actually went with an 88 sportster needle instead of raising mine and this worked perfect.

The needle that I took out of my cv carb was red, and it looks like the washer position is adjustable. Is this not the stock needle? I replaced it with the 88 Sportster needle, which does not look adjustable without adding washers.

Cheers... Ben.

That doesn't sound stock to me. When I took my carb off my bike it had an adjustable needle in it I found to be a dynojet needle. There may be a part number on it. I bought a new carb then put the 88 needle in it. The new carb (CV) I bought was not adjustable as the 88 needle isn't either.

If you have the 88 needle you shouldn't have to raise it if your main jet is ok.# 4 copper or brass washers are the correct size,
