Mark you're right about the gearing on the 93's with the 61T rear pulley, I had a 93 FX Springer and it ran great with that set-up. It had plenty of pull off the line and was great running down the Hwy. I know after the 90th. in Milwaukee when we were heading back we ran between 75 & 80 mph. on I-90 between Milwaukee and Madison stopped in Madison to fuel up and even at the speed we were running the Springer still got 60 mpg. The other three guy's I was running with were running shovels and couldn't believe how well that Springer ran and still got that kind of mileage.

just looking at doing this Myself. But the reason is to use one of the new `06 and later narrow belts. So I might either go with a 70 rear off a softail or see if I can pick up a 66 or what ever they are off of a fat bob.
Usual rule of thumb is 1 tooth on the front equates to 5 on the rear. I already have a revtech six speed installed and the bike hits the red line in 5th hard.

1994 fxr rear pulley swap
I just completed the rear pulley swap from 70 to 65 teeth on my 94 FXR. What a difference it has made. Cruising at 80 mph is actually enjoyable now. Didn't realty loose any bottom end and now I don't shift to 5th until 65 mph. The only issue has been the belt (original w/39k miles on it) squeals like a loose a/c fan belt on a car. From first through 5th gear it squeals when I accelerate or when under a load. It is adjusted correctly and has been measured accurately at the dealership I work at. I do have about a full turn and a half left on the axle adjusters, but that makes the belt too tight. Oh, the 65 tooth pulley was new from Drag Specialties and fit perfect. Was wondering if anyone here has had a similar issue or any experience with older belt/new pulley squeal. Yes, I have put silicone dressing on it 3 or 4 times now and after 10 miles the squeal is back. Any help would be appreciated as I plan on doing the Run to the Wall the end of May and don't want to hear squeal the entire way. Thanks

I can't really remember, and I just rode home tonight at 75-80 mph, but I think my 93 FLHS was only spinning at around 3400-3500 rpms at that speed. Hard to see the tach when this old man is shaking in 48 degree temps at that speed....
My road sofa seems to like 70-75 mph for interstate cruising. CV carb is just past the transition point from low speed to high speed circuits at around 3000 rpms, and the EV27 cam really comes on above 3000 rpm. At a steady 75 mph, the Thunderheader is purring like a big cat.

I have a 91 Softail Springer I want to change my rear drive gear. Need a push for best direction. At high speed my rpms are cranking. I want to drop rhem.

5th gear mostly or Anything over 70mph
It feels like I am cranking too high. As far as I can tell I have a stock 91 Softail Springer evo.
I think I have a 70 tooth rear sprocket.
I think I want to drop it down to a 61 or 65. I am not concerned with the take off speeds.
