Very informative thread. Back to the orignal issue, I don't see many older EVOs either. Everyone I know is running a later model TC. I'd also like to know where they all are. It seems like there must be a proper graveyard somewhere so I can get parts. I've been trying to find a sissy bar so my wife and kids don't fall off since I got the bike. I just gota tour pack mounting rack off ebay and am having to cut it up to make it fit right on mine. Then I will have to fashion a sissy bar and buy a pad for it. It's kind of fun doing the work and that is what I love most about my EVO (I actually understand the engine for the most part), but it sure would be easier to pick off a few parts here and there.

I think evos are fine, but I have always prefered shovels. I just love the look, sound and feel of the old ridged mounted shovels. However, I can relate to many of you guys. I never see shovels and it is rare to see evos. I have never seen a pan, or earlier on the road. I think many of the old bikes have been "stored" for collection purposes. I have also heard many of the older/cheaper shovels and evos are shipped out of the US to countries that can afford to spend the very very high price on a new twin cam, but they can get a shovel or EVO for a fraction of the cost. I am kind of surprise more people are not into the older bikes. They are really cool to ride and can be purchased for great prices.

 

In the late 80's/early 90's, the Europeans came over here (US) and bought every Shovel they could find, shipped them back home and doubled or trippled their money. My old Shovel went to Holland somewhere. Let some other Dutch guy worry about keeping that POS on the road. She wuz purdy, though.

My mechanic moved back south from Ft Wayne a few month's ago. He said up there it was mostly panheads,shovel's and ironheads when you went to the bike shows. He said there were hardly any evo's or twin cams.

Lots of both types of motors where I live in the Black Hills of SD, 32 miles south of Sturgis.
Anyone that knows bikes knows that they are still making evo motors.
In fact your bigger motors are of the evolution design.

Self rightous? Crap. I heard all this crap when they went away from Pans, shovels, kicks almost every new style. TCs are the new bike on the block for now and soon there will be another. You may not like it but if Harley does not keep up they will be out of business. I agree they better be building something better than disposable though. I don't like the TCs heating problems that is why I changed mine out.
