Starter relay part number 71463-73a

Relay boot part number 69459-85

That is the heavy duty relay...most bikes had gone to the little "ice cube" relay by then.

I have an Opportunity to pick-up an '85 FXG. Attractive Price too, but, it has been disassembled and left that way..
I do Have some concerns about rumored Hard to Obtain parts.
Wondering if those parts are truly Unobtainium??
Or simply the stuff that makes Belt drive rear work??

The one thing I have never seen is a new primary cover for 85/86 wideglide. Then there is the oddball 4speed transmission. If you don't mind after-market or custom parts you'll find what you need. Then you can search for original parts while still enjoying riding the bike.

Most everything else is common to other bikes and obtainable.

Rear belt 4speeds only existed for about 2 years (I think) which makes them rare. I don't know what's different about the primary cover but no one sells them. They get cracks around the main shaft if they aren't maintained well.

Yea... I thought the Tranny was actually typical of the 4-Speed Belt driven..
Wondering what would be Different about the Inner Primary??
Been my experience that any 4-speed inner will crack at the main shaft boss if not Installed/Aligned Properly!!

I've rebuilt my four banger recently,no problem finding quality parts,(Andrew)...never any issues with the inner primary, knock on wood....outside cover is a nine hole and can be found. Don't worry about oem parts, higher quality stuff is available...buy that beautiful beast !!!

This really should have had it's own thread.

That said what if you converted it to a 5 speed?

The WideGlide inner primary does not have a hole for the shifter shaft running threw it. The bolt pattern for the outer cover is different also. The turret top trans parts are the dino eggs here in socal. I hit the cycle swap meets and gather the odds and ends when I see them. Specificly the shifting cams. I have changed out three, and have a forth on the shelf. I'm looking to get a new trans main drive shaft, mine's worn. After 145K miles pulling me around, it's good to have lasted this long. There are two different length shafts for my glide, and I have to tear the trans down again to check which one I have. I can deal with the oil spot and clean the rear wheel every so often. Some replacement parts are scarce. I worry about things when they brake. Watch for the Volt Pak plug coming off the alternator.--------------------------RJ
