Ah yes, Indian Summer.. love those days warm during the day but cold at night so if your out on a ride in November be sure to be home before sunset otherwise your ***** might get just a little cold..

Interesting link! For those of us in the UK an Indian Summer is redolent of the country of India. Australia, relative to the UK, is roughly half a year out from us with it's seasons, so their Xmas is in mid-Summer. The Indian summer is late relative to the UK, hence a late spell of lovely weather here is roughly the same time as an Indian summer. Hope that reads right!

 

Here in the Midwest, I've always heard Indian summer being defined as a warm day after the first frost has already taken place.

Of course, in our highly over-sensitive culture, I assume "Indian summer" is now considered offensive. On a related note, when I was a kid in school, we were frequently told to sit "Indian style", which meant with your legs crossed on the floor. My wife (the teacher) says they can't use that anymore, and the new term is "criss-cross-applesauce".

So I guess we'll have to call those late, warm days "criss-cross-applesauce summer" from now on.

It's interesting to see that the expression 'Indian summer' has become associated with to two unrelated and distant groups of Indians!
