2008 bikes (link listed) don't have the Magnetti-Marrelli EFI type of filter, it can cost as much as $60 for the 95-01 bikes.

I see you have a 1988 flh. I just got one (flhp) and have a problem with the clutch,i think. After about 3 miles on the road it started to loose speed but the rpm's kept rising. My top speed was about 30 when I got back home. Any ideas?? Thanks.

Start with the cheaper things. Pull your outer primary cover off so you can pull your clutch pressure plate off. Check it for cracks & look at it to see if it still has a good arch in it.
Pull your clutch discs & steel plates out one by one & clean them if you have to with a tooth brush in the grooves. If you have the manual, you can check them for thickness but I just replaced mine. I bought new steel plates & friction discs here in Canada for around $130 complete. On that year, you are allowed to add 1 extra steel disc for more tension. I didn't because I used all new & didnt think I had to. Check for prices on a new pressure plate.
Do you have an owners manual? If you don't, "PM" me I can put one in front of you in 30 seconds.
Hatch.

Gon't forget to disconnect the battery, you really don't want any sparks when you have your hands in the gas tank !!!!!!!!!!!!

skrewsloose, the only problem with external filter is it is hi pressure for EFI and for one I would not want to be the one cutting a 100.00 hose in half to install an ugly inline filter. EFI bikes have a little more filtration than the carbs do with a drain screen in the petcock.

All of the vehicles have 160,000 mile plus on them and 2004 newer. One of the trucks even has 275,000 miles. They've never had a fuel related problem.....and never replaced/cleaned a fuel filter on them. All the trucks run just fine as well.

I've not added thousands of dollars to get extra hp. All my bikes are stock 80 EVO engine. One bike has the Super E, another has the stock carburetor on it, and the EFI has never been remapped either. All bikes have slipon for exhaust the EFI model has the stock exhaust on it. Far from thousands of dollars spent for hp. The bikes have never had a fuel related problem. Not to mention one of the bikes is fairly high mileage.

Diesel engines though....I promise the fuel filter does get changed.

Take it or leave it.....just speaking from my experience. Granted, everyones experience varies as well.

thats why most car manufactures put access (to in the tank fuel pumps ) under the back seat....pull out the seat..which is simple... and you have all the room u need to change the fuel pump and in tank filter and or screen...dropping the gas tank is old school....with efi a fuel filter is the cheapest form of engine preservation....filter $60....top end rebuild $2000?...

Default FLH inside gas tank fuel filter

Thats what I was wondering, if I could do that and how it would work.

maybe need to tie if off somehow in the tank so it dont roll all around.

Any comments on this,

All welcome, Please!
