I've got an 89 flhtcu and I need to upgrade to a cv carb . I read I should go with a 93 or later to get the accel. pump . Will any year in the 90's fit ? Is the last number the year ? I suppose I might have to rejet?
Definetly get one with the accellerator pump. The numbers after the dash indicate the first year it was used, Try the stock jetting with an '88 sporty needle. Hope this helps.
You will also require the manifold, throttle cables (2) & mabey some breather hardware. You will be impressed with how your bike breaths when your done!

Any year CV will fit...my '90 Heritage came with a CV with an accelerator pump on it, carb part number 27038-90A. The newer CV's(I have one ends with -99B) don't have a drain screw or overflow tube, not sure when they eliminated them. You may have to change cables. Get a CV manifold for it, part number for the manifold on mine is 27019-89, flanges 27009-86A front and 27010-86A rear.
In addition to the above mentioned intake and cables, (buy cables for your bike in a later year - after '90) you will need a totally different air cleaner assembly. The backing plate and cover are different to accommodate the vacuum chamber on the CV. If buying a used CV, keep in mind the enricher (choke) cable and valve assembly parts are another $50 if they're missing. You will also need to fashion a simple bracket for the new choke cable because it comes off the rear of the CV as opposed to the front of your original.
thanks all ,I'll see what I can find. I get the cough through intake from the non CV carb .
Actually I am getting a real bang back through the carb on occasion which I believe may be indication of an air leak . any thoughts that ?

Yep. Probably a cracked compliance fitting. But all that will be gone with the CV setup.
