this is an 82 fxr shovel it has a baker 6 speed all you need to do is open up the case a little. so the shift fork will slide all the way over. its been a few years ago but i remember calling baker and they told me how to do it.

Not one to listen to the old "it wont fit" jargon i made it work. Put one made for a 90-97 Big Twin in there. Two things to remember when putting one in a FXR or FLT is you have to do a little massaging to the transmission case and because the 90 and later clutch hubs are splined versus the pre 90 tapered shaft so you have to switch to a late model clutch hub.

Everything else fit right in including the trap door with no modification. The customer is very happy with the deal especially since he was out the door Cheaper than buying all new parts to fix his antiquated 5 speed.

Ill post pics up if anyone is interested.
can you post pictures of the massaging that is needed? Would the same steps work to just swap in the newer 5speed?

Kinda doubt you're gonna get any pictures as I haven't seen him around here in years.

search my thread called “weighing my options”. I did this swap on my 86 FLST. Some of the guys here explain exactly what to use to keep the stock primary and starter.

I put a OD six speed in my 85 fxr, you can use clutch primary from 91-93 same size ring gear bolt right into your bike and use original starter, 94 and after larger ring gear, I used a primary from a 93 fatboy
