Went to the indy yesterday. He had the front cyl off. He showed us where you can move the rod around and where the piston had rubbed the cyl walls. The piston is scarred also. We picked up the bike and I have it in the shop. I will take some pics and post when I get a chance.

Yes sir, my piston walls did the exact same thing with the lower bearing failure, decision time - decison time

Check out the Ultima 4 5/8 crank assembly for a low budget repair ($550) which is a bolt in 89" you are going to need to replace the pistons anyway.

Check the metal damage everywhere! hidden costs are lurking

That's what he's looking for alow budget repair. Maybe some good used cylinders and a reworked crank. He's a little short on cash at the moment but he wants to go to get it running as quick as he can. He's in the market for good used replacement parts.

tappet roller?start tearing it down.if it is a tappet roller, you`ll see it.if not, keep going, you`ll know if it a crank pin as soon as to remove top end(from rod play).if its a c. pin, tear motor down, split cases and take lh case with f/w ***`y to him,he can press out f/w`s,replace pin, pull f/w`s back in lh case and you can reasseble motor(didnt look at pics before i posted, defentatly looks like your getting mtal from somewere, most likely the pin)

Thanks prodrag. I found a guy close by that can do it. Earl Calhoun, you may have heard of him. The indy that told me about him said he drags or builds dragbikes.

It is a shame you already tore down the engine, could have done the HD engine overhaul/exchange for $2500.

The total teardown and rebuild to what it was with cyl. bored .020 over, myself doing the work new pistons and rings, rebuilt trued and new bearings for the flywheel, and resleeved connecting rods, retaining his cams and heads which are not stock is only going to cost under $1000. He was going to trade the bike or sell it but didn't want to do that to anybody. So to save on the cost and not sell anybody a broken bike this was the cheapest way to do it and do it honest. He wants a touring bike so no need for any more build-up on the engine. We looked at the crate motor and it's just more than he wants to spend on something he's not keeping. If he were keeping it he would definitely go bigger on a crate. Thanks guys and if anyone needs help with engine work in the sorrounding area of Gastonia I recommend Earl Calhoun. He's a straight shooter and he's been making bikes run better for over 42 yrs. Real nice guy. Ride safe
