Question Starter Clicking problem?

My buddy has a custom EVO.
We were checking out his starter problem. When pushing the start button it will click several times but wont turn over. When we jump start across the starter it fires right up.
Was wondering if this could be a starter relay issue?
The battery is new but we have still to test with a load. I didnt test it because the starter turns over fine when jumped.
He also has a start button on the starter and it starts fine using the button. Its only a problem when pushing the start button on the bars.
Any sugestions would really help here.
Thanks Sibs

There can be several issues.
The starter has both pull in windings, and hold in windings, and it is very possible for them to fail independently of each other.
This is where the push button trick solves the issue.
If it is only a problem using the h/bar button, have you tried using a test starter button(which you could rig from wire, simple or complex)?
Sometimes the h/bar switch gets a bit sick, and only works in one little spot.

Got some great advise here and followed the link provided.
Will toy with my buddies bike when he pops over next.
Ill clean all his terminals up and seriously sugest the inline relay.

Thanks guys.
