Default Aftermarket wire harness

91 softail fxstc

i recently took the tank off my bike to rewire my handlebar controls and i was amazed by all the wires under there. they all can't be needed. i would really like to clean all the wires up make it nice and neat. i'm looking for a quality aftermarket harness but i have no idea who makes them. where should i start looking?

Good question! I suggest first working out if any of the wires you can see are actually surplus to requirements.

There was a lovely story some years ago of a grandma who knitted a buttoned jacket for her little grand-daughter, who laboriously buttoned up her new jacket, then started to pull off the 'extra' button she found at the bottom! She had buttoned it up wrong and grandma had great difficulty stopping her pulling off that button!

So check your wiring before you condemn any of it. You may find you need more of it than you think.

You could check with JP Cycles or Dennis Kirk for starters but I'm with Mr. Brown. Almost every one of those wires has a function and they're about as neat as they're gonna get in my experience. ;-)

Vtwinmfg.com has wiring harnesses .... Part # 32-9215 for a 91 FXST. I wish they would make one for the early FLT years.

Why do you think there are too many wires? Did you buy the bike used? Is everything on it working? I would get a HD Manual and check things out before you start rewiring things.

I did buy the bike used and it's also 20 years old. There are alot of wires that were cut and quite a few added. I don't have any blinkers in the front or a horn. The connectors at the front appear to be corroding. I don't need the idiot lights. I just want to start fresh and make sure everything that everything is connected correctly.

I bought a ultima wiring harness off ebay. Was very easy to wire bike and has self canceling turn signals, and run brake turn module built in.

exactly what i was looking for Tom, thank you. does that unit replace the ecu or is it in addition to the ecu?

i was looking at the wiring diagram, http://www.ultimaproducts.com/18-530.pdf , and i'm pretty sure i can hook this up with minimal problems.
