6 speed transmission?
I was thinking about putting in a 6 speed transmission in my bike, the motor is a stock evo with an EV27 cam. My question is will a 6 speed work with that motor or not? I have been told it will by some people and others tell me the evo doesn't have enough tork to utilize the 6th gear (The motor will lug).
What are ya'lls thoughts.

I considered installing a six speed in my Ultra. After many conversations and trying other bikes...I don't think the EVO really needs another gear.

Agreed! I briefly considered a 6-speed, for my S&S 107. I'm running stock US gearing (UK spec was originally higher), but changed my mind and stayed with the stock 5-speed. I have over 100HP/TQ, but want to get the best out of it!

Are you sure about the 6 speed top gear having the same ratio as the 5 speed? I only ask because to me it makes no sense to do something like this as there is no gain in getting the 6 speed.
When I called the manufacturer they told me that with the 6 speed I could drop 500 rpm when I shift into 6th with a direct drive. Are they just lying to me to sell a more expensive product?

As Dan describes, there are two types of 6-speed available. Take a look at Bakers website, they explain things there. Direct Drive gives 6 closer ratio gears, with the same top gear. For some customers that is a gain! Overdrive gives an extra gear higher than stock fifth, which for other customers is a gain. Sounds like you are in the second group, so make sure you get what you want!

Ther is also close ratio options. That gives a slightly taller first gear. I have a revtech6 but I went from a 65 rear to a 70 rear and that puts first back close to original. I like it alot but even with close to 100 horses and the slightly lower gearing I only use 6 on the open highway at 70. But if you do alot of long highway runs than it is worth it. I know of people that have put a 6 in stock evos with stock gearing and they just don't pull it very well. They really need to be regeared.
