That's a tough one, Depending on area of the country and what not. Then, if your going to pull off the jug, why not do both? As long as the jugs are off, at least ought to replace the rings? If I had to pay someone to do it, (I'm only speaking for myself) Parts and labor less than $325 to do the base gasket and less than $500.00 to do gaskets and rings on both cylinders. This may not be anywhere close to what it might cost you locally, as I said, I'm only speaking for myself.

I just pay $1100 bucks on my topend, plus fork seals, fix horn, fix high beam light.
At the Little Guys Shop in mansfield Texas, I think that's a good deal and they did a good job.

OK Trigger I'm just going to come out and say it, this is an EVO and super straight forward to work on. Something like a base gasket really is not that complicated to do and you will be happier in the long run if you can accomplish the job yourself. Get a good manual and readup. Hell I think I even got a motor disassembly video kicking around for the evo, I think its from video manuals.

This is one of those jobs which is straight-forward to do yourself with a little patience. You can justify buying a factory service manual and any tools you need on the money you will save by not paying someone to do it, and still be in pocket. Buy a top quality gasket set and you shouldn't have any problems with leaking again.

Once you get it repaired.....either a shop or yourself....

Always remember to allow the engine to warmup slowly on its own. Take your time and let it idle until the valve covers are warm to the touch and then ride easy for awhile.

I had mine done last spring, it was about $900 at the Harley shop. It was mostly labor, I think the gasket set was only around $100. I would have them do noth cylinders, you're only talking a little bit more. I had them check all my rings and pistons because I was willing to do an oversize if needed, but they said I was good to go.

I also second considering doing it yourself. I did a major tear down of my primary and transmission this winter and was surprised with how successful it was. I had a service manual and a couple of good friends guiding me through it, but once I got in there it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be.
