Default just took delevery of my 1998 Road King

They just delivered it this morning. Wished I could of rode it home but it was 10* this morning. It has 52K miles on it. Well taken care of. I look forward to putting some miles on it as soon as it warms up some. Is there anything I should look for to avoid problems besides warming it up good before riding it? EVO's are supposed to be dependable rides.

Very dependable bikes ! You should check on the inner cam bearing and replace the lifters if someone hasn't already done so, the only weak link in those bikes, enjoy the ride !

i somewhat disagree. The evos up to 96 did have those issues but by 97-99 production models had been fitted with updated engines so these problems became very rare. I have owned many evos and we all ride evos in my group. Trust me when i tell you if its not showing signs of trouble you dont need to do anything. If the engine ever developes ticks or taps that concern you or smokes excessively them you may need to get atop end. Occasionaly a bottom...but i have 6 guys out of 14 in my group with over 100,000 miles and they still havent had to do any majior work. Talk bout reliable!

Regular oil changes every 4500 miles on an evo with over 50,000 miles is advised......primary..... & trans....... check too- change every 5000 miles or fill if needed but these bikes do not leak.

That baby has many miles to go before you will need to do more than general up keep.

Enjoy!

Road King? Looks like an Ultra to me! heh.

very, very nice.

Is it EFI or carb? If EFI you might be in for some, let's just say, frustration. Look up Magnetti-Marelli here or any Harley forum.

Check the front motor isolator. PM me if you want info on a very functional aftermarket replacement.

Might want to upgrade fork / shock oil. Plenty of info on doing that, too.

really nice ride, man.

. I agree they're reliable, but the late model evos still have the junk ina cam bearing ( post 92) and the lifters still need to be pulled out and inspected every 25k, if you're using stock lifters and cam bearing after 50k, you're playing with fire. That's the only weakness in the late evos ,
