Ok the bike started up and seemingly ran fine.

I went 5 miles and noticed the oil cap had blown off. I went and got another one, and it blew off too.

something is wrong...crankcase is building too much pressure, and cant figure out why.

Any ideas?

Maybe you mistimed the new steel breather.

i thought of that... but I am real sure I didn't do that.

Did some poking around, and the breather tubes/banjo bolts are BONE DRY. the rocker boxes are full of oil.

I suspect I got the wrong gasket for the bottom rocker box in there, and the hole isn't lining up with the breather hole on the heads. So there is not enough venting going on.

i'll call the builder who set me up with the gaskets and see whats what.

figured this out - the new rocker boxes I installed do not have the breather set up the same as my old ones. woops. I don't know how these ones are supposed to breath, but they are either getting modified or replaced soon.

live and learn.

Are you sure the ones you installed didn't have the umbrellas left in them?

My old covers had the umbrellas in them, so I installed these are the current set. But the new set that's on there does not have 2 breather holes on the right side - one front and one rear. My old ones have those breather holes.

I totally flaked when I bought this used part. I didn't know there were different breath styles.

I used a small hose clamp on the cam brg. puller to sqeeze it so that it would go in the cam brg. with no drag. Then loosen the clamp to let the puller expand in the brg., and pull it out. No way the brg. rollers can get out that way.
