Default cv carb start / enricher problem

HI!

First time on hdforums!

I have a custom with evo 1340 and cv 40 carb, im having problems when the bike is cold. if i try to use the choke it newer starts even warm or cold, so to get it to run a have to give it a litte throttle in the start and hold i there for while then let it down to idle. If its warm i just have to give it a couple on the throttle then hit the start and its on to go.

So to solve the enricher problem i checked the carb and find out that it was different from a friends.

Mine is to the left whats is the gold ring that i dont have ?

The gold tower in the middle of the carb is the main jet. The carb on the right doesn't have that jet, or the emulsion tube installed. The carb on the right isn't operational as it sits

No expert here but I think that is the idle mixture adjuster. It's blocked off from the factory an the one on the right has been drilled to adjust it. I agree the carb on the right is a few pieces short of a complete carb.

You don't have to remove the float cover to get to the idle mix screw. It's that tall tower looking thing on the far left. The soft metal plug has already been removed on your carb.

The part you have circled I believe is your enrichment jet. This is the jet that feeds your enricher

Not sure why yours has a plug in it. With it being plugged your choke ( enrichner) will never work

ok, the carb is from a 2002 Sportster XLCH 1200 and the part number is #27498-96, does anyone have any information regarding this carb and know if this plug is factory made or a farmer solution ? And is it possible to drill a new hole and put a enricher jet in it ?

I dont think you can even get that jet i looked online for some answers for this and knowbody even list that jet or even talks about it as far as size or anything. It is factory installed and not made to change. This is puzzling as to why yours is plugged. Maybe somebody has plugged for some reason or factory did not drill it out I dont know. Was this carb from a previous owner? Maybe get the hole size from the carb you have circled and drill it out? Im no carb expert but i do know there should be a jet where that plug is as it does feed the enrichner circuit. Welcome to the HDforum there is tons of knowledge here and if your patient im sure you will find more answers
