there was electronic ignition on shovelheads for several years before evos were introduced. i doubt any points systems were left over by 1985.

 

Points were done away with in 1979, when the "hearing aid" ignition was put in the shovelhead. If I recall, it was Late 79 with the introduction of the 80". The 1978 1200 motor was still points.

Bob, what service manual and parts manuals are you looking at? Because mine, official HD MoCo shop manuals covering 84-86, don't have no points in there.
