Hey guys last Sunday when I was out on my ride, my buddie asked me if I had a belt drive in my Evo because of the whining sound it makes. He's right, it does make a whining sound, changes with engine speed and can be heard while sitting at a light. I've done a search but was unable to come up with a match. Any ideas? The sound has been going on for at least 2000 miles, hasn't gotten worse but isn't any better either.
I'm having the same issue with my evo, and from what I've gathered the gear on the cam is too large, but I haven't torn it down yet to look and see what is really going on.
Could be either of the above but the cam noise doesn't come on suddenly...unless its the inner cam bearing going crook...adjust primary drive so it's on the slack side and test, if not that then I would suggest pulling the cam.

Thnx Spanners, I can't really say it came on suddenly, not sure when I noticed it but like I said it's been about 2000 miles. If it's the cam bearing, wouldn't it be getting worse?

They can whine for ages and then one day BANG!!!!!
