When I got mine the PO used Castrol GTX 20-50 in it, and that is what I use also. It had 17,000 on it when I got it and has 42,000 on it now and it runs great with no oil usage between changes. I have heard of EVO's going 150,000 on Castrol so I will stick with it. If I was going to change to another oil it would probably be Harley dino as I used that in my old Iron Head Sportster with great success also.

In fall/winter I run castrol 20w50 4T. Specifically made for V-Twins. Valvoline VR1 v-twin in 50w for summer.

I use 20w-50 during the winter (temps below 40 degrees Fahrenheit) and 50 weight during the summer (both Valvoline)
This next summer I'm going to try 60 weight (also Valvoline)

I get the oil at A line auto parts.

THC ,

I run the VR1 50 pretty much year round other then when temps drop below 35-40. I've tried the 60 and it proved to be slightly too thick for the lifters. There was noise that was not previously there when I had the 50 in. My weather is very similar to yours here in Houston.

I went to regular/dino oil this last oil change, hoping it'd get rid of the sewing machine ticking sound...it didn't.
