Default clutch cable routing

I've got a 1980 shovel FLT that the PO replaced the shark fairing with what appears to be an early 90's batwing fairing. I'm replacing the clutch cable and I've got questions about the correct routing of the new cable. I've got a 84-90 service manual, but I don't find any details about this. It appears at the tranny end that it must route behind the push rod tubes.
1) would it also go behind the lower carb bracket? (Pic shows it in front, but I'm thinking it needs to be behind the brace)
2) over or under the engine guard?
3) outside of, or between the frame downtubes? Between the downtubes looks like it'd put the cable right up against the front exhaust pipe.
4) lastlly, does it exit the fairing below and in front of the lower fork tree (as shown in the pic), or between the trees? If between the trees, which side of the neck? Appreciate the help

Well, lemme see if I can help some. On my bike, it goes through a hole in the faring, then loops down on the left side of the neck, along the left side of the cylinders though a standoff bracket, ending about at the rear of the block in a bracket with the adjustment nuts, which then points the cable over to the arm. Don't think I have a pic.

Thumbs up

I had to do a search to check, but if the clutch actuation lever is on top of the trans cover and you look at this photo, your route sounds and looks right.

Jeez Graham,
Nice find on that old shovel battle cruiser photo. You are a resourceful chap! If you're ever in the northeast part of the States lemme know. I'll buy you a drink we won't consume as we'll have some miles to put down. Lol

Hey OP,
A pal of mine just sold a Shovelhead FL with a moco batwing, I think it was stock anyway. Are you sure it started its life as a FLT?

Yeah, that's an 86 to something batwing on there. 85 back were different.

yes, the front exhaust (sorry for the fuzzy pic) and key are both 1980 FLT. The batwing has an HD cassette radio; that's what makes me think it's an early 90's? I guess my main question is does the cable get routed between the trees, or go outside (forward of) and then under the lower tree? Can anyone with a similar FLH fairing just look up between the forks at the lower tree and tell? It wouldn't involve opening your fairing.

If it's a 1980 and the engine is rubber mounted, it's an FLT. The FLH was still a solid mount. 1983 was the first rubber mount Electra Glide (Batwing) FLHT.

It IS a 80 FLT that the PO converted to a 90's FLH batwing. My question is how should the cable exit out from under the present batwing fairing?
