Crashed...Now vibration
 

95 RK, but Big Sputhe Evo Motor, 106ci. I did a slide into the back of a car, and smashed everything from the passenger peg back, on the right side. Front motor mount was trashed, so a got a new one, and torqued to 22ft lbs. I was unable to ride due to a broken arm, but got on today for a first ride since I repaired it. (still waiting on painted bags)
Well, there is a serious vibration, just off of idle (no tach) it only last for a couple of hundred rpm's and seems pretty smooth at speed, and at idle. I am afraid the crank may have slipped some. It is an S&S crank and rods. Is there a way to diagnosis a crank problem with out a complete tear down? Any other ideas where this vibration is coming from?

Steve, sorry to here about your incident and hope you are fine. S&S 107" here.

If the crank had slipped you would have far more serious vibes IMHO! It's far more likely that something simple is out of shape, such as the exhaust touching something it shouldn't. I suggest you start by checking your vehicle alignment (in other words that the engine/trans are correctly aligned on the rubber mounts), then check wheel alignment and work from there. Any significant impact can dislodge or distort things and it would be wise to confirm that your bike is fine and dandy. The processes of alignment are in the factory service manual, if you have one.

The vibration happens with the bike stationary, in neutral with a slight rev, and while returning to idle as when coming to a stop. If I am sitting on it and rev just a little, it rattles my eyeballs. I do have a tru-track arm mounted to the right side frame, and to the transmission. I will check that along with the alignment. I do have the shop manual.

My dyna does this and I've read similar posts from many that have a similar issue seems to be normal for us on some dynas. Is there a chance it's the new mount you got? Does it look or feel different then the one you took off. I think if something else got messed up in the crash you'd feel it driving more than the sitting still revving.

the vibration has always been there the new front mount is more rigid than your old one so you feel it more now.

Your motor is installed backwards if that is your red bike. Durrrrrr
