Bike smoking?
I have a 1996 road King and it is smoking thru the exhaust. I took the exhaust off and this is what's going on inside. Is this an indication of bad valve seals?https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.hdf...ebd7bad7d8.jpg

Yup. Looks like it's time for new seals. I just went through it myself. Sorry man!

Well, your Road King is 21 years old, so it's old enough to smoke. Also drink and vote.

I have up smoking 6 years ago....cuh cuh.....
How many miles? Seriously though, if your gonna take the heads of you might want to have the guides checked as well.... Or maybe even a performance upgrade.... Doesn't hurt while they're off..... |
Have you compression checked the motor?
|
pull the plugs, how do they look, what color smoke, blue could mean oil (rings or valve guides), black could be carb problem, running rich. more diagnoses needed before you tear the motor apart. doesn't look all that greasy to be burning oil and smoking. Compression and or leakdown test would be a good idea like Omaha suggested
|
Also, what's your oil consumption like? In my experience, by the time you have visible oil smoke your motor will be consuming a LOT of oil.

Hey uncle g. Certain counties in ny state are now making the smoking age 25. Supposedly the drinking age too. You can still go to war at 18 though. Just found this out at the one headshop.

Haven't heard anything about it around here. Maybe a "downstate" thing.

As a general rule, just bad valve seals will only make a motor smoke on crank-up...once it is running no noticable smoke...lot of older motors didn't even have valve seals. |
