Check the black fuel pump wire that runs under the tank dash. It may have worked itself loose or come undone completely. Even if it is connected it won't hurt to clean the connection.

I checked the HD web site for recalls and it only goes back to 1999.
It did recall 98V-158, recall July 7, 1998, 1997 Electra Glide Ultra. No mention of what it is but, at least I have a number for reference. So thx! The black wire under the tank will be checked because in my conversation with others, a fellow I know had a very similar problem and it was the black wire to the fuel pump?? Thx. |

Don't know about Harley but a recall always remains active for repair at a Navistar dealer. Field changes can expire, since it is a safety issue, don't see how Harley can can allow it to expire.

You guys are the best!!
Thank you for all of the info! I am not familiar with Navistar Dealers. Is the a certification at a HD dealer or can indies have that certification as well?? Again, Thank you!! |
Navistar builds trucks. You need to see the Service dept at your local HD dealer. It's free.
....... or you could try the number at the bottom of 14pigs post. |
replace the circuit breaker that feeds this.

Gentleman,
Finally found the issue and corrected it. Did find out that the recall on the ignition switch had been done in 2001. But, that phone call lead us to check the ignition switch relay, under the fairing. Yep, it tested bad. Replaced it and the old girl come to life! Now, I have a new question. Since I have owned this bike, the volt meter gauge has always read about 2 widths of the indicator above 12. Always had a good battery and everything worked great. Now after this repair, the bolt meter reads 14. I read some other threads and it should have been reading that all along. ?? In our diagnosis we did find a couple of wires that were worn and some connections that were not tight. Just was wondering if that all seems right. Thank you all for your help! Wayne |
