Default New Tire

Hi everyone. Am wondering if there is a consensus best front tire for these evos? I have an 86 fxstc. Was watching American flat track racing and saw an ad for Dunlop. Are they the best? Thanks

I don't know about the best but I prefer the Dunlop Elite series tires.

No, they are not the best. For your Softail, the Avon Cobra would be a great choice.

I've got one of those Avon Cobras on the back of my bike. I think it's a good one.

Default Metzler on ‘97 FLHR

I’ve run Dunlop’s D402 (stock tires), Avon (venom I think) and the Metzler ME88, Ive found no noticeable difference in handling, but the Metzler gets muuuuch higher mileage. The Dunlop gets 5k rear & 10k front,
the Avon’s only got 4800 on the rear, the Metzler’s consistently get me 7-7500 miles on the rear.
I always replace the front when the second rear tire is gone, but they usually still have several thousand miles of tread remaining... nothing better than new tires front and rear!
I put a new rear tire on last fall and they changed the model number to ME880 if I recall correctly. They changed the sidewall and they now have those tiny ridges like the Dunlop’s, I preferred the smooth sidewall! The tire feels the same as the older model and it appears to be wearing at the same rate, but I won’t know until I know!

Avon Venom has been replaced in recent times by the Cobra, which is the new-ish Avon kid on the block. It is always worth checking Avon's website for the correct pressures for your bike, as they often recommend higher numbers than in the owners manual. Running slightly low pressures can affect mileage, but the real benefit of Avons is the ride comfort and grip.

You’re right in making sure to follow the tire manufacturers recommended pressures, and the front and rear are usually different as well.
The Metzlers call for a higher psi as well.

I second this, I have over 5k on the rear so far and noticed a big difference and will be putting one in the front soon.
