Default Newbie first problem

Purchased a 1997 road king a few weeks ago . while changing fluids I noticed some grey gummy s*** coming out from the cam sensor . Took off the cover and noticed the sensor was
starting to melt ! The part # is 32448-95a Expensive ..has anyone replaced it with a aftermarket part less expensive , if so do you have a part number .. I've only had the bike a few weeks and already spent a ton of money on her . just glad I caught this problem before I got stuck on the side of the road . Many Thanks in advance ..

A common problem. Just fix it right the first time with the OEM part.

Why does everyone think cheap parts is the way to fix stuff???????????????
Think of it this way...the cam sensor that you have lasted 21 years before failing and nothing made in China is gonna get you anywhere near that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMO if you want to do a good upgrade that will stand the test of time get a Dynatek 2000i ignition module.
It combines the cam sensor with ignition module and will vastly improve cold starting on your bike.

Either of the suggestions above is great advice. Mine also packed up, many years ago now, but the replacement carried on without problems for many more years. You only have two viable options: the 'expensive' replacement, which is remarkably good value for money; or the even more expensive Dynatek, which will provide very worthwhile improvements and is worth the extra. Are you a Harley owner or a wimp? Just toss a coin and get your money out.....

Yeah but what if he has a fuel injected bike? He wouldn't need an ignition module then, would he? Is that Dynatek just for carbed bikes?

Been there done that, and with every new part she's getting better and better. You're almost there, don't go the cheap route where you are so close

Now I'm confused... would it have a cam sensor if it was a carbed bike...?
Or is my sarcasm module off...

Dyna 2000i and be done with it. Peace of mind is worth more than money saved on cheap parts. I'll put cheap china parts on my wife's car, but my bike, NEVER! HAHA

Or you can try this. I use one of my 77 shovel and also in my 98 Fatboy. If it's carbureted you use slotted mounts and adjust the timing with an inductive light. If it's fuel injected you use the two fixed-mount single screw holes. Works perfect and only $40.
