What's stated on the tire's sidewall is maximum PSI, not the recommended inflation. That determination is decided by the tire manufacturer based on the vehicle it's being used on.

I've been looking around for this info too. We put a set of 777's on my son's 08 Sportster Roadster. What I have been seeing is that Shinko recommends the number on the side of the tire, unlike say Dunlop which has a website with recommendations for each tire and bike and it's not necessarily the max pressure on the sidewall.

If your first post was taken at face value it is incorrect. You are corrected and then claim you know.

So if you know, why confuse people with incorrect information the first time?

My front tyre can run at a maximum of 42psi but the manual states I should run it at 36psi. I wouldn't call 6psi just a little.

Actually, the tire pressure for the vehicle is specified by the vehicle manufacturer, not the tire manufacturer.

I wonder why Dunlop and Michelin recommend two different pressures for the same tire on the same bike?

I'm out, splitting hairs, If your that concerned look it up in your service manual, what Harley recommends for your bike, then spend the time trying to find out from tire tire manufacturer what they recommend for their tire on your bike with the compound you have and hope they are correct and not giving you bs, mean while Ill be out riding, reminds me of something??? wait for it....... an oil thread!! lol

No it doesn’t! That’s the Max under extreme conditions, the pressure for your bike is on the frame label and in the owners Manuel.
