Pressure and flow rate, since a fuel filter that is staring to clog up, may give you a good static pressure check at the bunge, but bottom will drop out as it's trying to flow fuel at that pressure.
Also, double check the system on the return side as well, since could be problem in the pressure regulator causing problem too.
Fuel pressure port is in the bottom of the fuel tank connector, takes a odd size pipe thread to screw into the port. No way to check fuel return on a MM system, not provision available to tap into or lines to pirate into it.
The 96" is on the edge for a MM to feed, they run out of delivery around 100hp with red injectors and Power Commander, I'm really surprised someone kept it on the engine. Sure would check those intake seals like mentioned, not going to take a whole lot to lean this monster out.
I hadnt considered the limitations of the MM system, thats a good point. Actually I wasnt even aware of it but I do remember the guy I bought it from saying the shop he was using for maintenance tried to get him to convert to carb setup. They told him it would make more power but he didnt want the expense. According to what I have an owner before him payed for the big bore kit. I thought about calling the HD dealership where the work was done for details but like so many others theyre out of business now

Had a 10.2-1 compressioned 89" and kept the MM, opened up the plenum removing the shot gun divider, red injectors with a PC3. Purchased a Wego3 tuning system, it was able to read, record and make changes to a PC3 map, in several area's where detonation is prone the PC3 was maxed out @ 100% fuel addition.
Kept the MM on it for a while and didn't really have any issues except on hot days loaded with 2 up on hills had detonation, the PC3 was maxxed and the next move would be a higher pressure regulator, since the plenum would need to come back off just did the carb conversion. Put on a CV with Ultima ignition tuning it with the same Wego3, ran better in all area's sounded like a pumped up Evo should and clearly a positive move.
With your PC3 you can add more fuel manually in the midrange area with the 3 buttons on the controller, it will be the center button, there is a process to trigger the control to allow the buttons to add fuel if the intake seals are ok.
Today I spent some time on it.. the bike has true duals with Vance/Hines mufflers. The baffle in the right side can was very rusted and rattling when I put it away last year. The head pipe support for the rear cylinder was broken (saw that today) so I suspect it was stressing the exhaust studs and gasket in one direction.
I had a fresh set of gaskets and new Vance/Hines mufflers to install. Welded the support bracket and reinstalled. Changed the plugs, fired it up no problem. Tested the intake manifold seals by leaking some propane near them with no change in idle, Im hoping those are ok. Test rode in 60 degree weather: no pinging! Next week its supposed to be closer to 90, Ill get it out then to see whats what.
The rest of the suggestions so far from you guys will get checked over in the coming month or so. The head pipes were more blue than I like, I do think its a bit lean. My 2006 dyna head pipes looked the same way before I put the pciii on it, as I understand theyre lean from the factory due to emissions nonsense.
As an aside, I forgot how noisy these motors are. I have a 1983 goldwing barn find I brought back to life and that motor sounds like a sewing machine next to the evo!
Last update from me regarding this issue. Ran fine until it got hot out, above 80 and it was detonating. I didnt want to mess about with it until after a July trip I had planned, ran south through Missouri into northern Arkansas and kept it from pinging TOO bad the whole trip with octane boost.
Ive now converted to a Mikuni HSR 42. Starts faster hot or cold, no pinging, no popping or backfiring on decel. Was able to keep cruise control with a homemade bracket.
All of you that have done this conversion were right about one thing for sure: the tank conversion was a pain in the ****.
