My 1997 heritage is at the harley mechanic. I got Samson true dual fishtails put on it. Samson also included a shifter rod with a bend in it.
Well, the Samson shifter dont fit and the stock shifter dont fit. The Samson shifter will go on but it dont have room to shift. The mechanic is thinking about trying flipping the shift rod to where the bend goes over the top of the crossover pipe.
I feel your pain. I have a 2000 Heritage Springer with the Sampson true duals and S&S barrels. It does not fit well. The best thing to do is use a coat hanger to bend a custom rod, then duplicate it 5/16 rod. thread the ends for your ball joints, or heim ends. The are available at most hardware stores.
So, the bike shifts but its not as smooth going through the gears as it was before I had to modify a shift rod. The rod has quite a bit of side to side play in it from being at a odd angle I guess , and I think that is what is making it not as smooth.
Are the factory shift rod linkage ends on a 1997 heims or ball joints? Maybe I should try a heim? Is there such a thing as a offset heim end?
