Default Deceleration squeal

My '91 FLHS squeals when I decelerate. When I let off the throttle it squeals a little but when I down shift and am slowing it squeals bad when I let the clutch out. If I hit the throttle again it goes away. The clutch seems to be adjusted right. It's my first Harley and I bought a Clymer manual but can't come up with anything else. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Brad.

My vote is loose final belt. Let us know how easy you can twist the belt.

Loose belts, over tight belts. Throw out bearing.

Easiest thing to check first is the drive belt tension and alignment, I've also had compensators make noises like your description. Also you should have a look at your saddlebag support brackets.

Primary fluid is good. Looks like the plates are getting plenty of oil on them. Is there a good garage way to set the proper belt tension without the HD belt tensioning tool that you set at 10 lbs. and all that crap or is that THE way to do it?

You have misalignment between trans and rear sprocket...when you accelerate, the belt "walks" one direction...when you decelerate it walks the other.

i learnd to twist the drive belt with my hand. you should be able to twist the belt at the middle to 45 deg. if not its too tight, if you can twist it more than 45 deg. its too loose.

Belt was loose and misaligned! No more squeal! Thanks for the help all. Blob, that 45 deg. twist trick worked great. Thanks again everyone, this site rocks!
