'93 FXR, want to convert to wide front end

Has anyone done this? What manufacturer of wide glide did you use? Was it an easy process? And did you keep with stock rake or go with an offset tree to stretch it out? Pics?
Thanks.

I swapped a 2003 Wide Glide front end onto a 97 super glide. It was a straight forward swap, using all stock components. I just had to swap to a newer style front caliper. The stock trees have a little rake built into them, but it still wasnt as much as a stock wide glide or FXSTC.

To answer your question, yes it was easy. Steering stem rake? You have an FXR! Would be better to burn the Bible, Torah, and Koran all at the same time as you surely would not go to hell as quickly as screwing up the handling of an FXR!

Here is the $329 kit from Jireh. Simple bolt on and even has a bracket so you can keep the stock headlight. Its the 0 degree kit.

dont do it ! itll kill resale value which is steadily rising on virgin fxrs and will deteriorate handling. just my two cents, which dont matter much :icon_razz:

+++1 on this, for looks the wideglide many folks like. the narrow forks add rigidity to the frame, the wider you go the more stress is put on the forks. Laws of leverage come into play here. stick with stock and buy a wideglide, but don't butcher the fxr. jmho. :)

Agree 100%.......why under-engineer a kickass road bike like the FXR with a wideglide?
Just took a wideglide off of a FXRT.......

First a simple front end swap isn't butchering anything it's a bolt on so your not hacking anything up . Secondly stock narrow glide frontends flexed like slinky unless you did the fork brace / spring kits in them . You spend a few hundred bucks and a couple buddies to help extra hand kinda thing and you get a beefier looking and feeling frontend and ride . Owners preference on that I don't like the way narrow fronts feel at all , hence my 60mm inverted setup on mine . GO for it man and just put he stock front away and if you sell the bike it can go with as an extra , believe me it isn't going to drop the value a dime if you do nice and clean .

Have a Ceriani 55mm inverted mid-glide.....lowers are 43mm.....you can ride this set-up as hard as you want, works well, is very stiff....a performance front end......drawbacks, expensive. Installed on a '92 FXRS Lowrider

Removed a 41mm wide-glide with a wide hub 21" wheel from my '91 FXRT. The wide-glide didn't handle as well as a narrow glide does.....felt whippy in the corners even with a fork brace......

If it's just looks that you want, mabey the wide-glide is the set-up for you. If you like to crank it up a bit in the corners, there are better fork set-ups out there, one of them being the narrowglide forks that came with your bike. Narrow glide forks with good guts, a fork brace, and adjustable shocks......hard set-up to beat.......happy trails

I'm right in the middle of a frame off restoration for my '93 FXRS-CON. I've decided to go with a brand new (year 2000+) FXDX front end with the 4 puck disc brakes (dual disc), and the 13 spoke wheels. The FXDX forks have a decent cartridge system, and are fully adjustable. I like the 39mm narrow glide look, and I wanted to keep costs from getting out of hand. I also wanted to get rid of the air/oil forks with the funky buckhorn bars and Schrader valve at the end of the left grip.

Ramona, I love those Ceriani forks, but I knew if I got those, then I'd be getting Brembos and all the assorted hardware too. Poof...there went my budget! Maybe later.
