Default 93 FLHS trans drive sprocket

Changing drive belt on 93 FLHS due to rock in belt. Trans drive sprocket teeth are sharp as a knife. 51000 mi could it be worn or is that how they are supposed to be?? Any help greatly appreciated

If you mean they have a point on the raised teeth instead of a flat top, then they are worn out. Check your rear sprocket as well.
To get the trans sprocket off I think you need a 1&7/8ths socket that is 6 inches deep. Go buy an impact socket, cut it in half & weld a piece of pipe in between the cut to lengthen it. Then grind the face of the socket flat so it grabs the nut fully!
Hatch.

Yeah the raised teeth are sharp, will try your socket set up. I'm in there may as well do it right. I read somewhere where that trans fifth gear could also be worn, ever here that?? Thanks for the response!!

Check out George's Garage web site. They have Harley tools at a reasonable price. Their sprocket socket has a pilot that keeps you from boogering up the threads on the shaft.

When new the teeth are rounded and smooth. If yours are sharp and you're fitting a new belt it would be wise to replace it, to give your new belt the best life. With the rear pulley being much larger that should have an easier life.

I just went through the exact same thing a couple months back on my 1988 FLHS. It's the first time a wrench has been laid on the engine or transmission in 25 years and 46,000 miles other than just regular maintenance. My belt had been running for many years with a couple small rock holes in the middle of the belt, but I noticed the side was starting to split, so it was time to change!

Replace EVERYTHING, the front and rear sprockets and the the fitch gear. They have made changes from the original design on the transmssion sprocket with a better keeper design for the nut from backing off, it should come with the new sprocket.

I used a Andrews fith gear and it too came with the new bearing and seal, you do NOT have the take the transmssion out, pull evertything straight out from the other side of the primary. It's an easy job and you will be glad that you did.

My belt and sprockers came from Harley, and as I said the fifth gear came from Andrews.

You will probably want to get a new primary gasket, top transmission cover gasket and the transmission side cover gasket and a couple quarts of trans/primary lubricant.

Approx cost: rear sprocket (32tooth) $220, trans sprocket $80 Belt $200, fifth gear $127 oil $19 per quart.

One other suggestion, if your clutch has any age to it, replace it as well while you have the side cover off. I paid maybe $35.00 for my FLHS.

This would be a good time to go one tooth larger on the tranny sprocket and lower the road RPM's.

Hi John, despite my 107" motor and 107TQ I am very happy with stock US gearing. UK gearing was a 61T rear pulley, which I eventually got rid of and good riddance! The poor things have high enough gearing.......

Can't find any smilies! What's going on - who knicked'em!!!!
