I would go as planed , If that's your riding style ,
Thanks. I was looking for more get up and go, and top gear roll on as well as better throttle response. It's an old Heritage, not a v-rod. I would like to someday have a six speed over drive, but from what I have learned, it takes a big inch built engine to do that effectively. It also costs a lot to do it with top notch components which I have trouble justifying for the actual amount of use I would get out of the sixth gear. If I ever get a chance to retire, maybe then the sixth gear would make sense because I plan on spending my retirement years just riding all over the country for long periods of time..
You don't want a "dingle-berry hone" from a power drill in your cylinders. Get it bored properly from a machine shop, new higher compression pistons, port heads, valve job, new valve seals, then you don't need to shave the heads as much as just squaring them up.
I pulled my motor apart myself so I can "play" with the bike while I'm at the mercy of the machine shop's schedule to get my parts done.
Scott at Hillside is doing the work. Here's what he said he recommended to get 80hp/80ft/lbs of torque from an EVO.
Bob Wood W-6 cam
10.0 cr.
Our Stage II Heads
Dyna 2000i or Crane HI-4
Either a re-worked CV, 42 Mik, or S&S E
Supertrapp 2/1, Thunderheader, or Cycle Shack 2/2's.
80-85 hp, low 90's torque, with EXCELLENT fuel economy.
Must've built 75-100 of these over the years.......
Reliable, smooth combination.
Not enough?
A bit more compression and a Wood 8.
That will hover @ 95 hp, and 95 ft/lbs.
Scott
I'm going with stage I heads to save money and the woods 6- so maybe 80hp?
I make that statement without seeing or checking the bore for taper, ect., with a BORE GAUGE.
It could be very minor, but from what I read that he told you, it don't sound good.
What gets me is the bike runs pretty damn good, so how bad can it really be? I have been busy with work but as of now, I am on a combination of days off and vacation don't go back to work until November 5. That means tomorrow I am going to the shop to have a look myself.
"how bad could it be"....famous last words. prior to both of my failures the bike ran like a top. first time was 60% leakdown on the rear cylinder with ~ 50% of the bore gouged from a partial siezure...last thing before teardown was a ~ 200' holeshot
second time, a 90+hp/90+tq dyno run, 2500miles, a lowside crash, dozens of wheelies/burnouts/holeshots/douchebaggery, followed by a final kapow when the flywheels scissored and the rod bearing came apart (this is all in a 5day roadtrip to boot)
dont second guess this **** man. it gets expensive fast.

unfortunately no. never could figure out how to freeze-frame the GoPro vid's, although the perspective (blue sky) wasnt quite as cool as it mighta looked from the sidelines. the new rig oughta do it damned near on command (S&S 124). problem is, none of the guys I ride with wanna stop riding to take pictures of the rest of us, well, riding.
i put in an ev-27, baker OD6 and the dyna2000 ignition. the cam and the ignition really helped but still not enough for the 6 speed. my plan is a S&S V111 next year. anybody have an opinion on it?

You have no idea how helpful your post is to me. I was wondering if maybe I should go with the six speed, and this single post convinced me not to.
