Im ready to fit new Andrews EV27 Cam to the 91 Ultra. Ive measured both old & new Cams and they measure the same. Question is....I have a spacer and a Thrust washer which came off old Cam. The HD Factory Manual doesnt show a spacer on the illustration and Im not sure of the position of the Thrust washer.
The "lugs" on the Thrush washer dont appear to fit into anything and it looks like they should be at the 18.40pm (approx) position. The new ToRrington bearing sits about 1/16" deeper than the face of its hole in the crankcase.
It seems that the Thrust washer goes on the shaft next then the spacer.
Is this the sequence. Also...when all is fitted this way, the face of the teeth on the Camshaft protrude slightly from the corresponding face of the pinion gear. Should the new Ev27 Cam just slot in or do any measurements re.teeth
on both Cam & Pinion Gear need to be taken. Sorry6 to ramble on but I cant afford to make any mistakes. ps. The old cam came out easily with a good quality blind puller.
1988 and later need the shim, go spacer, shim, cam and although that spacer is an odd shape it has no real "proper" way up.
You should use your original cam gear, pressed onto the new cam or you may find the lash is wrong and the motor will either whine or rattle....neither are good!

Ditto Spanners39 ., the EV 27 cam is an excellent cam but i have also noticed a few posts listing fittament troubles with regards to early 90s evos.
Try emailing Andrews Cams for specifics regarding installing the EV 27 in your particular motor.

Thanks Spanners, really glad I asked this question.
I notice that the old Factory Cam has a keyway for ease of removal and the Andrews has no obvious way of removing from shaft.
