Exhaust note @42mph in 4th gear

2008 heritage Softail, 3000 mi. At about 42 mph in 4th gear I get a slight popping noise (engine lugging slightly behind power curve). This is not with an increasing throttle. If I enter a climb I shift down. Does this slight lugging cause any unusual engine wear? If so what , the rod and main bearings?
Also looking for an inexpensive radio to use with the Harley speakers. The one I have picks up what I guess is ignition noise on the AM setting.
Thanks,
Wayne San Antonio

Do yourself a favor and do not be in 4th at ~40mph, these motors like to be run in the upper 2k to low 3k RPM range....Ask this question in the engine section as you will get more opinions there, but the bottom end of our bikes do not like lugging.
