Why do the CVO slip ons have heat shields
 

Just curious as to why the CVO touring mufflers have heat shields but not the non CVO nor most after market mufflers. I bought a set of take offs to put on my 16 RGU. Thinking of leaving the heat shields off. They look just as good without them.

Some mufflers have cats in them, which can get darned hot. Which year CVO are yours off?

I had ones off a 12 CVO on my 14 Limited and just bought a set off a 16 CVO for my 16 RGU. All the touring CVO stock mufflers I have seen had the heat shields. Look on eBay, all of the CVO touring take off mufflers for sale have them.

If you look at CVO bags. they are lower in the rear than stock ones. the muffler is more in the bag. so its for heat
