Default Vance and Hines vs Thunderheader

I currently have VH Big Shot Staggered on my ride (2006 Softail Standard). The motor has been punched out to 106 inches and now makes 103 HP and 110 lbs TQ andnow the pipes are too loud. Am considering replacing with a Thunderheader 2 into 1 system. I was told I would likely gain a little performance out of the bike and it may quiet down some. Does anyone have any thoughts on the Thunderheader 2:1? Is is a quieter pipe? Do the 2:1 systems really bring increased power? Do you guys like the Thunderheader sound? Thanks in advance for any input.

My dealer has been pushing TH hard to me. He tells me I will gain up to 17 HP. They are loud but they are ugly as hell. So I went with Rinehart flush and I will gain 10-12 % across the board . Very pricey though.

Agreed JP13, Thunderheaders have a wicked sound that I just love, especially if you have a nice lumpy cam; but they are the ugliest pipe I have EVER seen onany bike. I'm told they perform very well but I don't have any true research to back that up...

I ran a Thunderheader on my '03 Low Rider, It made some great power but it was really loud! I changed to a V&H ProPipe and liked it just as well.

Thumbs up

There is absolutely nothing "UGLY" about the Thunderheader. Hidden in the cam chest is a set of Andrews TW26G cams. The rest of the motor is stock. 50k miles. Starts up first time, every time, runs smooth, no backfiring or hesitation and yes, that is a Keihin carb. No cam whine and never has been on a dyno. It has all of the power that I could ever need. Perfect!!! I forgot to mention that I do wear a 3/4 helmet with a faceshield. On top of that I wear earplugs. aw

I love the sound and performance my TH produces and the looks have grown on me. And with the speed a TH makes, people can't see it anyway. 

don't think I've ever heard a t-header described as "ugly"...especially compared to most other 2-1 pipes. Personally I like the looks of the older SE pro-pipe and the new V&H comp pipe. The 2-1 Bassani is growing on me too but it's very similar to the t-header anyways. thunderheaders make great power, have a very distinct sound but are of much inferior quality when compared to just about any other pipe on the market...
