Best way to let a 103" breathe?
 

I am having a 103" kit installed with HTCC heads and pistons, and a Thundermax auto tuner. While the standard 103" kit comes with a SE air cleaner, is there a better option? What are you guys running on your bigger engines? SE has a a new "heavy breather" performance filter, but I'm not sure that look will work on a bagger.

I wrote this for another post butit should address your question. I just replaced my SE carb filter with a "ForceWinder". It was pretty simple.
Remove the three phillips head screws on the outer cover. The cover comes off and there is the air cleaner. I presume you are changing to a different air clearner. So you need to take off the mounting bracket as well. There are three "slot" screws that should be removed. Then depending on your engine, you may or may not have head "breather" bolts that must be removed. If you don't ,then the base plate should come right off and you should see the actual carb at this point. If you do, you may need what they call a "ball end" allen head wrench. Sears or most any place has them. My set cost $19 for 15 different sizes. Using the allen wrench, screw out the breather bolts, trying not to strip them. There may be hoses attaching the breather bolts to the carb. Remove them using pliers or a screw driver to open the clips depending on the type. At this point you should see the carb it'self. It you are replacing the filter like I did...What I did was buy a new support bracket, it came with new breather bolts and has the passages built in, and it came with directions. It is made by D&N. (E-Bay, JPCycles, I bougt mine from custom chrome thru my local shop). Then you just replace your new parts in place of the old. Bolts, then gasket, then bracket, then gasket, thien new air cleaner assembly, then air filter. 6-7 lbs pounds of torque is good, just don't over tighten.
Or you can buy breather bolts with filters that just expell into the atmosphere.

A buddy of mine is running the SE Heavy Breather on his RoadGlide- I run a Forcewinder on mine. I think they look ok on a bagger. Another option is the Zippers filter upgrade on the SE backplate that comes with your kit.
