Default Twin Cam 88 vs 96 Heads

Does anyone know the differences between the two heads. I ask because I have a set of Stock 2002 Heads off my Twin Cam 88 and a new 07 FatBoy.

Would I be able to use these heads (2002-Twin-Cam-88) if I sent them out for a port job on my 07 in the future or would it be better to have the 07 heads done.

I am also curious in the changes made if anyone has the info.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome in the new member section.
Jesse

There are a few differences, first off, the flange mount is different for the intake manifold, but the intake can be mounted by using corresponding year flanges, also, the the 07 heads have a slightly raised intake port and beehive springs, the 07 heads use a 7mm valve stem diameter valve while the 02 use 5/16, also, the exhaust port on the 07 is much larger from factory than the 02, but once ported correctly there would be little advantage either way although I still like the small ports after porting better than the large. IdealIf it were me, I would use the 07 heads mainly for the beehive springs and the raised intake.

The '02 heads will work on your '07 but there are some improvements in the newer heads. You'll need to use different intake flanges on the '02's. I'dcall whoever is gonna be doing the headwork & see which set he recommends.

The 7mm valves in the later heads are smaller than the 02 heads so I would take the 02 heads, put in new valve guides and use 7mm valves. I would go larger on the valve head size and then have the heads CNC ported to match the cams you want to run. Your compression ratio, cams, and head flow all need to mate to make smooth torque where you want to ride. Just changing parts out rarely works, it needs to be a package deal. My 95 inch motor is putting out over 100 ft.lbs. of torque down low where I need it because I listened to my engine builder. He explained all this to me and because of his reputation I let him do what he wanted. I am truly a happy camper!

The 06 head has a much more raised floor in the intake runner, than any T/C prior. The 07"s are raised further. Without a doubt a better casting than 05's and earlier.
