Help with backfiring problem on 96 super glide evo Can you help?
Can anyone possibly help me figure out what has happened...I would really appreciate it. \\; I've searched through the forum as well as performed a search with no success. \\; Hopefully someone will have the answer.
 \\; I \\;have a 96 Super Glide Evo that is hard to start. \\; It backfires through both the carb and exhaust along with flames out the exhaust. \\; If and when it does start, it runs really bad and has a rough idle. \\; This all started after a bad backfire upon starting one day.  \\; Thanks \\;in advance for your help. \\; \\; Jim \\; |

What have you checked so far?
 \\; Welcome to the forum.... Ben. |
RE: Help with backfiring problem on 96 super glide evo Can you help?
Thank you Ben for the welcome and thank you for responding. \\; This is what I've checked so far:
*Checked for intake vaccuum leak *Checked wiring to the module and coil as well as the coil itself *Checked the plugs  \\; All of the above checked out fine. \\; I readjusted the push rods as well.  \\; Any other suggestions of what I can check? \\;  \\; I'm wondering if it could possibly be due to cam jumping time or burnt valves?  \\; Thanks again, Jim  \\; |

Do a compression check, and check the ignition timing.

Thank you Doc 1. \\;
 \\; I have already checked the ignition timing, just forgot to put it on my list. \\;  \\; I'll perform a compression check.  \\; I'm stumped!  \\; Have a great evening Jim  \\;  \\;  \\; |

It may be possible that when the bike backfired thru the carb that time it may have blown the diaphragm in the top of the carb. \\; Should be about a $40 part.

Thank you telefishin2k for your response. \\; i will check that out, if there's a way to check it. \\; I'd rather it be that than the other alternative it's looking like.
 \\; Have a happy and safe 4th Jim |

RE: Help with backfiring problem on 96 super glide evo Can you help?
Thanks dvsracer for your suggestion. \\; All I know is it's a single fire ignition but don't what what type. \\; I think it may be an ignition problem too but I can't figure it out.
 \\; Does anyone know how to test the electronic module?  \\; Also, to follow up on the other suggestions, the compression check came back as about 180 per cylinder front and back.  \\; Argh!!!  \\; Thank all of you so much for helping. Jim |
