I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I hate seeing incorrect information even more. I found this thread while searching for the same answer myself, but I received a reply from Arlen Ness today. I was also informed that the K&N cleaner is too harsh for use on the Arlen Ness filter.

It seems this is for the synthetic filter only.
Arlen Ness kits have the choice of standard filter (to be oiled)
or a synthetic filter which does not need oiling.
