Default 204 vs 255 vs TW6-6

I'm trying to sort out the differences between these cams. The dealers aren't exactly helpful. The plan is cams then heads and maybe a 103 kit later on an 08 Dyna.

204 - mid range. up to 5800 rpm (SE book).
255 - low-mid range. up to 5000 rpm (SE book).
TW6-6 - mid range. 2200-5500 rpm (Woods Dyno on site).

Now the TW6-6 is $100 or so more. What are you really getting for this charge? 1-2 more HP/TQ? Seems like maybe a wider range?

the wood 6 is a good ckoice...it will work in both stock motor and 103...the 204 would work better in the stock motor, but would require special machining to get the compression low enough in a 103...this is not a problem foe a good builder/head porter, but would add a little cost to your 103 build

Woods 6 is my vote............great cam from low-end to top-end.

You are paying for a cam that works, and is worth every penny.

I'm considering the same thing, with the exception of the doing head work now too. What you have to remember is that each piece of the puzzle has to work together for the correct end result. So, if you go with the Woods cam, which is what I'm going with, make sure your head work is done by someone that knows Woods cams, such as Hillside or GMR as examples. I know both of these guys use the Woods cam in their engine builds. Also, I haven't heard of any reputable engine builders that use the SE cams in their builds. Period. I think that says something in itself. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I have used SE cams and have good luck with them. It all about how good your builder is and what he knows. But just to give you an idea 96 inch motor with cams and head work.

1. andrews 31 h cams
2. head work

About 92 hp 96 tq.

Now with stock motor with----

1. pc3 with good tune
2. Fuel Moto jack pot slips ons
3. high flow air cleaner.

78 hp 93 tq

But this is on a bagger with 96 inch

I know this works because I sell them and dyno myself you can see on my website dyno sheets. Or just ask wildman he is on this forum I did the same thing to his bike he got 78 hp and 91 tq. 07 bagger stock motor.
Also cams work best when you have them custom made to your motor if you do the math engines builders here on this forum will know what I am talking about.

Just my 2 cents.........

D.B.W answer.....And when you look at cams look at ABDC it will give you a ideal for power curve.,

204 - mid range. up to 5800 rpm (SE book). 508 LIFT ABDC 34' here are the specs........ from D.B.W
255 - low-mid range. up to 5000 rpm (SE book).. 550 LIFT ABDC 25'
TW6-6 - mid range. 2200-5500 rpm (Woods Dyno on site). 510 LIFT ABDC 40'

Now the TW6-6 is $100 or so more. What are you really getting for this charge? 1-2 more HP/TQ? Seems like maybe a wider range?
I gave the specs to you 204 255 tw6 cams above....The question is where do you want your power curve????? low mid high where do you do most of your riding??????

Answer:Mainly the name for 100$
there are other aftermarket alteritives that are closer to the SE price and just as good.

The 255's don't last until 5000 rpm. They're DEAD at 3700. I have them in a 103" Softail, with no head work. They pull hard until 3500, and by 3700, you have nothing left. Go with the TW6-6 (just my opinion).

I have a TW6-6 with an A/C and slip-ons in a 96" with stock heads/compression, and get 99tq/89hp and a big flat torque curve. IMO you can't go wrong with the Wood cam
