Default Dynojet Stage 1 jet kit Question...

Today I received the Dynojet Stage 1 jet kit for 2004-2006 XL883 C. I want to try install it by myself following the instructions that came with the kit. Also will be installing Bub "Jug Huggers" exhaust & Forcewinder XR2 Air cleaner. The instructions that came with the kit are the following:

STAGE ONE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove the vacuum slide from the carb. Remove the stock needle & spacers, noting the order of assembly.
Locate the slide lift hole using Fig. A. With drill bit provided (DD #29) enlarge your slide lift hole. Do not drill
the needle hole.
2. Install the Dynojet needle on groove #4. Install the Dynojet washers above the e-clip (Fig. A). Install the
Dynojet spring (DSP009) in place of the stock spring, making sure spring is aligned properly. With certain
engine modifications, you may experience better fuel mileage with the stock slide spring.
3. Remove the stock main jet and remove the emulsion tube (Fig. B). Sometimes referred to as the main jet
holder. Replace the stock emulsion tube with the Dynojet emulsion tube provided (DET001). When the
Dynojet emulsion tube is fully seated there will still be threads visible. Install the Dynojet main jet provided.
Use the DJ165 main jet with a completely stock bike. Use the DJ170 main jet with aftermarket exhaust or
airbox. With an aftermarket exhaust and airbox use the DJ175 main jet. With an aftermarket exhaust, airbox
and cam, use the DJ180 main jet. With engine modifications, ie: cam, head work, airbox, and high flow
aftermarket exhaust, it may be necessary to use the DJ190 main jet.
4. Locate the fuel mixture plug (Fig. B), if you see a screw head at Fig. B proceed to the adjusting procedure.
With the DD #5/32 drill bit provided, carefully drill through the plug. NOTE: The mixture screw is directly
underneath this plug, be ready to pull back on the drill the instant you break through. Use screw provided to
secure and remove this plug. Carefully turn mixture screw in until lightly seated, then back out 3 1/2 turns.

My question now is: Should I do exactly what the instructions say or what do you guys with experience recommend me? I will appreciatte your help in this, first time playing with motorcycles...

Thanks in advance...

FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS TO A "T"!!!!!!!!!

.... and go with the 175 jet...

Be very careful when you drill out the plug.... if you push the drill bit in too far, you will screw up the Idle Mix screw...

If you want to decrease your gas mileage and run rich go ahead and install the kit. If you drill your slide and put in a lighter spring expect to have your carb cough allot. If it was me I would raise the standard needle 50 thousands( 2 # 4 washers). I speak from experience.

Now you have me thinking if it's better go to the dealer and buy a couple of slow jets and use the main jets of the kit, not using the rest of the parts... The kit is sitting at my desk waiting to be installed.

My bike coughed, spit, puked, burped and farted from the factory. Couldn't hardly ride it if temp was under 70 deg. I installed the dynojet kit and it runs awsome. Im getting close to 50 mpg. Drilling the slide made the bike rap out like a dirt bike, no more sluggish throttle response. You already have the kit, go ahead and install it, but like Shovelhead Bob said, follow instructions to a T. This is my experience, others may vary. Good luck...

I wander if the ones getting bad mileage with dynojet kits have had it dyno tuned to get the air fuel ratio right? Would that make a differance?
