05 electra glide crank????????
 

i have been told that the crank in the 05 twin cams do not hold alot of power has anyone else? if not what r some of the power the 88 twin cams r putting out with a stock crank?

My 06 makes 104/100 with the stock crank.

I have not heard of any problems with that year stock cranks; what are you planning to do with the motor?

I wanted to just get a little over 100 hp and torque nothing major but i was just told those crank are just plain bad ,bad metal ,bad bearings everything just wanted to check with other people thanks

not true; a few have gone bad but I don't know the circumstances surrounding that.

I have heard that 07/08 were the worst but you can't prove that by me--had a 07 SG with HQs 103 105hp 116tq I did everything imaginable on that bike to include but not limited to: Rolling burnouts, getting it sideways, wheelies and a lot of racing--I put 24000 miles on the bike not one motor issue. You will be ok with the stock crank as long as you have the run-out checked--if it's within acceptable tolerances do the build and enjoy the bike. Check the crank pinion runout with a dial indicator. If OK you can do anything you want almost.
Cranks actually were originally designed very strong. Its designed with an interference fit. Wheels holes are 0.007in. smaller than pin dia. I expect they heat the wheels and cool the pin and press in place with a quick fitting to establish correct. Extreamly tight. There is talk the deminsions were relaxed for some reason for awhile. Not quiet as tight.
Maybe it was a bad night or day or week. My luck I got one.

The crank on my 05 Eglide with a 98" build didn't hold up too well. Took out my gear drive, oil pump, cam plate etc.

In '03 they changed the sprocket side crank bearing from the time-tested tapered timkens to a big INA (yes, similar to the ones that constantly failed on both evo and twin cam camshaft applications) and you immediately started hearing reports of the new bearing failing in higher horsepower applications. After a few years, high mileage engines started to fail. So, yes, anyone who has a 2003 or newer big twin has a shot at engine failure because assembling the engine with the weak bearing is cheaper and faster for Harley.

I just tore into my 03 dyna, 22k miles on it. Engine built in 9-02. No timken, and crank had .0055 runout with slight scoring on the crank and cam plate bushing. Having it trued, welded and timken upgrade and going with a SE cam plate and oil pump. Definatly check the runout. Glad I did!
